We offer scanning options to suit the specific requirements of your project. Price, scan quality, type of original and file size requirements are all variables to consider when deciding on the best type of scan for your needs.
Drum scans offer the best overall quality when working from film originals, from 35mm up to 8x10. The resolution and tonal capture of these scans are adequate to satisfy the requirements of any type of reproduction, including large format giclee prints.
Reflective originals up to 7.5 x 12 are scanned on a high quality flatbed scanner that is also capable of meeting the needs of any reproduction requirements.
For oversized original artwork, we recommend obtaining a 4x5 transparency and then making a drum scan. See price guide for copy photography pricing.
For less demanding applications, such as web use or Powerpoint presentations, we offer lower resolution scans at economical pricing.
Scans are clean and ready to use. If your original is damaged, improperly exposed or in need of alteration, we can provide expert retouching services if desired.
Our scans are color balanced for standardized digital output. Our general practice is to provide full tonal range RGB or grayscale tif files that are compatible with either Mac or PC. For cmyk printing, these scans can be calibrated and separated according to recommendations from your printer or pre-press service.
We recommend archiving scans in RGB in order to preserve tonal range, especially if digital photographic output (transparency or print) is a possibility. Scans are delivered on CD at no extra cost.
